I, too, disliked the 40k series and even the Space Marines for a time. I believed that they were testosterone driven maniacs in over decorative, over-protective power armor. It didn't make sense that an Empire with massive armies and ships and Spehss Mareens considered themselves indanger or at war if the Orks were there only enemy.
I grew to like it over time, though. It was full of imagination and no other game franchise or Sci-fi fantasy called to me like 40k. I also learned that Orks were not the only, or most dangerous, race against the Imperium of Man. Aside from the Orks are Chaos, a demonic force of heretics and unholy creatures. The Tyraniids, a Swarm race of monster Xenos, a hybrid of Lizard, Insect and Psyker. And the Necrons, an awoken army of souless machines, hellbent on exterminating life, believing that the NEcron were destined to rule again. Although I believed their look is still over-done, I can understand that "Over-Powered" Armor now.
Space Marines aren't the only "Good guys", by the way. The Imperial Guard is a prominent figure in Warhammer 40k ( That's who the Krieg are also, just with bad-ass looking WW1 gear and gasmaks.) Space Marines to Imperial Guard is like Spartans to Marines in Halo.
I understand your feelings toward the Marines, and know that I can't change them. (I like making fun of you for it, but it's all in good spirits.) And if you ever decided looking more into them, you might even find that they're not as OP as most would believe.
As for your last question. A Bolt weapon is like a mini-missle-launcher. It fires the bolt into your target, then it bursts in all directions once it penetrates. Bolt pistol isn't the only weapon there is, but certainly the only weapon you'll need to deal with 5 or 6 Orks. Happy hunting.

I can definitely blame my ignorance/lack of knowledge for this one. I simply did not want to look into or learn more about the series, so many of my thoughts are mainly speculations/assumptions. And for the Bolt Pistol, yikes, i had no clue.
Lol that made me smile a bit . Not everyone is fans, and believe me, I LOVE the series, but there are THOSE guys in our fandom. Ya know, THOSE guys. Every Fanbase has 'em, so do we. The guys that make people hate 40k because they don't like what some person had to say about it.
Oh what am I saying, you've dealt with THOSE guys, before.
Yes, well those types are everywhere, no matter what.
My philosphy is to ignore the weakminded fans/haters and keep loving what I love. You would be suprised with the number of people who hate the Space Marines, or just 40k in general. When people want to discuss their opinion rationally, I'll converse with them. They want to hate, or hate people who hate, they'll be treated as the true brat they are, and will get no attention from me.
As far as other fanbases go, I've no quarel with them, and stay out of their way.
